The Mountainous Banat Museum of Resita has a heritage of around 76,000 pieces in the fields of art, ethnography, mineralogy, industrial history and not the least, archaeology and numismatics. The collections constituted in the five decades of the museum’s existence come from donations, acquisitions and archaeological researches.

The donations have constituted a basis on which the initial collections of the museum were developed. Here we must mention the collection of rocks and fossils donated by the engineer Anton Reingesen* in 1962, the donations of A. Vetö and others, in the first years of the museum’s existence.

The art collection Stendl has a certain space reserved in the rooms of the museum. In 2007, the well-known plastic artist Ioan Stendl and Missis Teodora Stendl have donated to the museum a number of 20 paintings and some textile works achieved by Teodora Stendl. This constitutes the most important art collection of the museum.

The archaeology collections come to around 21,000 pieces from the Palaeolithic until the Middle Ages. These collections were constituted by systematic researches unfolded in: the locations of Gornea, Liubcova, Ilidia, Moldova Veche, Valea Timisului, Divici, Cuptoare and Gradinari;the boroughs of Varadia, Liubcova, Gornea, Pojejena, Divici, Ilidia, Socol, Coronini; necropolis at Liubcova, Moldova Veche, Divici, Sopotu Vechi, Gornea, Ilidia, Ersig, Carnea, Cuptoare, Bazias.

The pieces classified as cultural movables of the National Cultural Heritage in the category Funds and Treasury (statues, altars, vases caps, little amphora) are representative for prehistory.

The Roman and the late Roman age are well represented by the 11,500 coins which are part of the treasuries of Macesti, Moldova Veche, Curcubata, Radimna, the brick with ample Italic writing at Gornea, the collections of vases and bronze and iron objects.

For the Middle Ages, there are 700 artefacts which were discovered in necropolis, 300 are classified as adornment objects.
