The photos collection in the deposit of the Mountainous Banat Museum contain 5,000 photos and sepia, white and black or coloured postcards dated from the second half of the 19th century. An important part of the collection is dedicated to images which reflect the industrial and mining activity of the area during the St.EG, UDR and Sovroms, a century of history of metallurgy, ferrous metallurgy, machine building, silvan and mining activities in the Carasian Banat.

The original photos, some of them achieved in photo shops in Vienna or Budapest but also in our country, in Oravita or in the photo lab of the factory in Resita, present both panoramic views of the factories in Resita, Bocsa, Anina-Steierdorf, Oravita, and aspects of different factory sections (interior or exterior) which made history in the Romanian industrial activity – the Siemens Martin plant in Resita, the Bluming roll mill in Resita, the foundry, the coke plant, the locomotive factory in Resita, the furnaces in Resita and Anina, the electric power station, Grebla in Resita.

Other photos contain images of numerous pieces and technical assemblies manufactured in all these industrial units (reference points being the locomotives produced in Resita) which were exported both in the country and in many other European countries. From the point of view of the evolution of the economic life in mountainous Banat, other relevant photos are those presenting the construction of the railway, the dams, aqueducts, viaducts or the bridges of the region, but also the mining activities in centres like Anina-Steierdorf, Oravita, Bocsa-Dognecea-Ocna de Fier, Sasca Montana.

Another category of photos and postcards contains images from the First World War, with groups of officers and Romanian soldiers or with campaign hospitals, to which there are added the photos presenting the moment of the Great Union and also the entrance of the Romanian army in Resita (27 July 1919) or Oravita (2 August 1919).

Other interesting images illustrate the intense cultural activity in mountainous Banat in the second half of the 19th century and in the inter-war period, activities unfolded in the towns of Caras-Severin County but also in its rural localities. There was a remarkable theatrical activity in Oravita and Resita, reunions for reading and singing, the well-known choirs and brass bands of the towns and villages in Caras-Severin County. Likewise, important photos are those presenting on the one hand, a series of appreciated figures in Mountainous Banat and on the other hand, professional, ethical, local, sport communities, in other words, aspects of daily life in urban and rural Banat.

Another part of the museum’s photos collection is dedicated to the economic, political-ideological and cultural activities of the last 50 years, which came from AGERPRES, and from the photo shops of factories or of the museum.
